Syncing and Unsyncing Locations
Control which Shopify locations are included in your stock calculations, analytics, and replenishment suggestions.
Overview
Synplex pulls all locations from your Shopify store. By default, every location is included. If you have temporary locations — pop-up events, trade show booths, test fulfillment centers — their stock will inflate your on-hand totals and skew your reorder calculations unless you exclude them.
Excluding a location removes it from stock calculations and analytics. It does not delete any data. You can re-include it at any time.
Where to find this
Navigate to Settings in the Synplex sidebar. The Locations section shows a table of all your Shopify locations with three columns: Name, Country, and Included in stock calculation.
How to exclude a location
- In the Locations table, select the checkbox next to the location you want to exclude
- Click the Exclude/Include location bulk action that appears
- The Included in stock calculation value toggles immediately
- On-hand totals and analytics recalculate to exclude that location's stock
You can select multiple locations and toggle them all in one action.
How to re-include a location
The same action works in both directions. Select the excluded location and click Exclude/Include location again — it will be included from that point forward.
What changes when you exclude a location
| Included | Excluded | |
|---|---|---|
| Counts toward on-hand stock | ✓ | ✗ |
| Appears in inventory calculations | ✓ | ✗ |
| Included in analytics and reports | ✓ | ✗ |
| Drives reorder suggestions | ✓ | ✗ |
| Data preserved | ✓ | ✓ |
| Reversible | ✓ | ✓ |
Excluding a location does not affect anything in Shopify. Stock at that location continues to be tracked by Shopify — Synplex simply stops counting it.
When to exclude a location
Exclude when:
- A pop-up sale or event has ended and the location is no longer active
- A location is being used for testing and is not part of live operations
- A location is closed or archived but still appears in Shopify
- A location holds stock that is not part of your replenishable inventory (e.g. consignment, display stock)
Keep included:
- Main warehouse and all active fulfillment locations
- Retail stores that are part of normal operations
- Any location whose stock genuinely affects your reorder decisions
Practical example
A store has five Shopify locations:
| Location | Status | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Main Warehouse | Included | Primary fulfillment |
| Downtown Retail | Included | Active store |
| Uptown Retail | Included | Active store |
| Spring Fair Pop-up | Excluded | Event ended |
| Trade Show Booth | Excluded | One-time event |
Before excluding the two temporary locations, on-hand totals included stock allocated to those events. After excluding them, totals reflect only the three active locations — giving cleaner reorder calculations and more accurate Running Low alerts.
Things to keep in mind
All locations are included by default. When a new location is added in Shopify and synced to Synplex, it will be included automatically. Review new locations and exclude any that are temporary or non-operational.
Changes take effect immediately. On-hand values and analytics update as soon as you toggle a location.
Excluding a location is not the same as discontinuing a product. Exclusion affects location-level stock aggregation. To stop replenishment suggestions for a specific variant, use the Procurement strategy setting on the variant's location configuration instead.
