Choosing the Right Bundle or BOM Type

If you are unsure which type applies to your product, answer the three questions below. Each path leads to a clear recommendation.

The Three Questions​

Question 1: Do you physically assemble the product from components?​

Does your team combine multiple physical items to create the product?

  • No → Virtual Bundle
    • Shopify or your bundle app handles the inventory deduction at order creation
    • No BOM setup needed in Synplex
  • Yes → Go to Question 2

Question 2: Do you assemble before or after the customer orders?​

Do you build stock in advance and sell from that finished stock?

  • Before (build in batches, hold finished goods) → Go to Question 3
  • After (build only once an order arrives) → Assembly-to-Order
    • Create a BOM (type: Assemble-to-order) in Synplex

Question 3: Does the finished product have its own SKU with real inventory?​

Is the assembled product stored and tracked as its own SKU?

  • Yes → Pre-assembly Kit
    • Create a BOM (type: Pre-assembled) in Synplex
    • Raise Production Orders to build and track stock
  • No → Assembly-to-Order
    • Create a BOM (type: Assemble-to-order) in Synplex

Still Unsure?​

Try these two tiebreaker questions:

  • If you received 10 orders tonight, would you already have 10 finished units on the shelf?

    • Yes → Pre-assembly Kit
    • No → go to the next question

  • Does Shopify or your bundle app list the components as separate line items on the order?

    • Yes → Virtual Bundle
    • No → Assembly-to-Order
